A gynecological disorder is a condition that affects the normal functioning of the female reproductive organs ranging from issues in the breasts, uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, and vagina to the vulva.
Common Gynecological Issues
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)
In this condition, the follicles of the ovaries produce cysts due to hormonal imbalance. This results in the reduction of number of eggs produced, which can lead to mood swings and depression. This issue is characterized by irregular periods, excess hair growth, infertility and acne.
Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)
Bacteria, especially E. coli, can cause UTIs. This bacterium can enter the body through the urethra and infect the urinary bladder. The infection can move from the bladder through the uterus and affect the kidneys. UTIs can also be transported through fingers, so it’s a good practice to wash hands regularly.
Endometriosis
In this condition, the uterine lining grows outside the uterus, which can cause pelvic pain and lead to infertility. Endometriosis can occur in the fallopian tubes, pelvic lining, ovaries, fallopian tubes, etc. The surrounding tissue can get irritated, forming scar tissue. Bands of fibrous tissue may form that can cause pelvic tissues and organs to stick to each other.
Ovarian Cysts
Ovarian cysts are sacs filled with fluid either in an ovary or on its surface. Generally, ovarian cysts are harmless. Less than 1% of the ovarian cysts are cancerous.
Dysmenorrhea
Dysmenorrhea is characterized by intense pain during menstruation that can affect daily activities. Due to severe contractions in the uterus in the process of shedding its lining, it can be depleted of oxygen that, causes severe pain in the lower back and abdomen.
