Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure to alter the size of the labia. Labia are skin folds on the vaginal opening. While the outer folds that protect external genital organs and are covered by pubic hair are called labia majora, the inner folds that protect the opening of the urethra are called labia minora.
During labiaplasty, the surgeon:
- Removes labia tissue to reduce its size
- Injects filler material or fat to enlarge it
- Reconstructs labia from other tissue
Cosmetic Reasons for Labiaplasty
- Reduce asymmetry of the labia when one is longer or shaped differently
- Improve sexual appearance, comfort, and confidence of labia during intercourse
Before Labiaplasty
The doctor will check your psychological condition and tell you that focusing on millimeters of perfection will never give you happiness. The doctor may provide details regarding incisions and expectations regarding the size and shape of labia. Blood tests, urinalysis, and chest X-ray will be performed.
On the Day of the Procedure
The nurse will check for vitals, including pulse, oxygen level, temperature, and breathing rate. Anesthesia will be given through an intravenous line (IV). A urinary catheter is placed in the urethra. Labiaplasty can take around two hours.
Reduction Procedures
There are two procedures to reduce the labia.
- Brim procedure: The surgeon removes the excess tissue from one or both sides of the labia minora so that they are even with the interiors of the labia majora.
- Wedge procedure: The surgeon removes a wedge or pie-shaped tissue from the interiors of the labia minora. The submucosa is left intact to give a natural look for the labia minora. If the surgery is performed to reduce labia majora, the surgeon removes the interiors of each labium of labia majora.
Enlarging Procedure
The surgeon takes some fat from either the thigh or abdomen and injects it into the labia majora. Another alternative to this procedure is injecting hyaluronic acid.
Complications of Labiaplasty
The following complications can take place in rare cases:
- Infection
- Scarring
- Wound breakdown
- Bleeding
- Bruising
- Removal of excess tissue or less tissue
- Pain with sex or loss of sensitivity
Rush to the doctor if you experience below signs:
- Fever
- Heavy bleeding or blood clots
- Opening of surgical site
- Discolored pus or discharge
- Unbearable pain while peeing or pooping
- Excessive swelling or severe pain
If you are bothered about the appearance of your labia or experience discomfort while performing exercise, wearing tight clothing, or during intercourse, labiaplasty can be a solution for all your problems. The surgeon at Matrix Hospital Mehdipatnam will listen to your concerns and provide tailored treatment that will give you the desired results.
